The Project

Eleven tanks. 660,000 cubic metres of storage capacity. And 20,000 square metres of surface area. Impressive figures, we love them. What it's about? The construction of an oil storage terminal in Eemshaven in Groningen. Trisoplast was commissioned by RVB Infra to seal the tank dykes around the terminal.

Safety and experience

Eemshaven is one of the larger transhipment ports in the Netherlands. Transhipment volume: some 4,176,000 tonnes annually. That requires a keen eye for safety. When tendering for the construction of a storage terminal with eleven tanks of 60,000 m3 each, client Vopak explicitly focused on safety and experience. Trisoplast's solid reputation (and that of its contracting entity Tritech Solutions) fitted in perfectly in that respect. Our task was to provide the dikes around the terminal with a liquid-proof layer of Trisoplast.

Flexible processing method

The goal? To make the dykes, with a total surface area of 20,000 m2, so strong and insulating that oil products can be absorbed in the event of any calamity and cause no damage to the environment. To ensure this, we applied a 7-centimetre layer. We did the compaction in two ways: a vibrating plate for the more horizontal surfaces and a crane with roller for the steeper slopes of the dike flanks. Important feature of Trisoplast in this respect is perfect liquid proof connection to pipes and concrete structures. This in combination with the flexible processing method remains some of the many advantages of our product.
